Wayne/AVI Front Loaders

Wayne/AVI front loader for recycling pickup at Los Angeles International Airport

In the 1990s, Wayne had won a contract to build front loaders for the City of Los Angeles, but had little experience building that style of refuse body. To fulfill the contract, Stan Worthington tapped west-coast industry veteran Albert Serrano to build the new front loader in California. These were advanced-design bodies with welded sheet construction that eliminated the traditional reinforcing ribs. In addition to the L.A. trucks, the new American Vehicles Incorporated (AVI) also built a limited number of bodies for private contractors in Southern California.

By 1996, AVI was bankrupt, and Serrano went on to build a small number of front loaders under the name Serrano International, as well as for hauler Universal Waste Systems (UWS). Wayne would not field their own front loader until the Titan arrived in 2010.
