Atlas Hoist & Body Company
Montreal, Quebec
The rare Atlas Ultra-Pak rear loader was most likely a Pak-Mor
Atlas Hoist & Body was founded in 1950, as a builder of hoists and heavy-duty truck bodies in eastern Canada. By the late 1960s, Atlas branched out to the refuse body field with roll-offs, stationary packers and even fielded a rear loader for a few years, the Atlas Ultra-Pak. Available in 20 or 25 cubic yards, it bore striking resemblance to the Pak-Mor "RL" series rotary-blade packer, and most likely was built under license.
Roll-offs were the biggest stars of the Atlas line by the start of the 1980s. Eventually, the company name was changed to Atlas 2000. In 2005, it was acquired by Chagnon, and that company was itself subsequently was absorbed by Durabac in 2011. The Atlas Hoist trade name has not been used in many years.
