Fuji heavy Industries
Tokyo, Japan
FHI has been in business since 1953, but can trace its roots back to 1908, and has in been involved in wide variety of manufacturing including aerospace, automotive and heavy equipment. Refuse collection bodies were introduced in 1962 with the Fujimighty LP-101, built under license from Gar Wood Industries (USA). The first models look almost identical to the American LP-600, but in smaller dimensions for the denser urban environs of Japan. Fuji developed the revolving-blade Gar Wood design over the next fifty years, far more then even the original designers ever did. Even the famous Gar Wood LP-900 design was once produced by Fuji as the LP-650.
Beginning in 2003, Fuji began an engineering partnership with rival manufacturer ShinMaywa. In late 2012, FHI officially transferred their refuse truck division to ShinMaywa, and the product lines have been merged. Production of the rotary blade models is believed to have been ended under the new ownership.
