Laird Shark body on a Seddon Municipal chassis

Cammell Laird was a British shipbuilding concern, which became involved in other manufacturing activities over the years. By the late 1960s, the division at Anglesey was building the famous Shark rotary refuse bodies in the UK under license from KUKA in Germany. Laird Anglesey continued this line even after KUKA was absobed into FAUN in 1983, eventually adding Variopress rear loaders as well as the Rotopress.

Laird acquired Aspinall Engineering in the 1990s, and for a while also sold the Gar Wood FL-series front loaders. FAUN, having rights to all the aforementioned refuse bodies, finally took over Laird in 1996 and consolidated their refuse trucks into the FAUN group of products.
