Smithpac 5 side loader
Harold E. Smith designed the Smithpac, compact side loader with a unique crusher panel which imparted direct compaction on the load as it entered the body, crushing it against the hopper floor. These were designed to be mounted of forward-control walk-in chassis from GM, Ford, Dodge and International. The 5-yard version was soon joined by the Smithpac 10, in truck or trailer-mount (Portapac) configuration, all with tilt-to-dump unloading. A patent version of the Portapac visualized a progressive packer panel inside the body, but it was likely never built.
