Union-Bowles
Union Environmental/Division of Union Corporation

Union Environmental first developed stationary (interior-use) compactors, then added front loader packers by way of an agreement the S. Vincen Bowles Company of Sun Valley, California. Starting around 1973, Union built a version of the Bowles 'Horizontal Brace' front loaders, which had recently come on the market. These were possibly built in metro Detroit (Wayne and Livonia Michigan) and Philadelphia (Old Forge, Pennsylvania). Of full-pack design, one of the unique features of the Union version was an "indexing" packer cylinder mount, whereby the mount could move backwards during unloading to extend the travel of the blade past the tailgate. Of dubious value, it used a clamping cylinder system similar to the Leach Push-Out System. Additionally, Bowles roll-offs and stationary packers were also offered. No information is available past 1975, when the Bowles name was dropped and the model became known as the Union.
